Brassfoot's debut longplayer is dense and varied, with 9 diverse and primarily club-focused hits spread across two records. Raw and abrasive drum workouts are balanced by tracks such as Coveted Codes, which manages to showcase aspects of high-end melodic dance music whilst still maintaining Brassfoot's characteristic bang. Overall, the LP has a very "live" and jacking sound, with creative use of distortion and impeccable 4/4 drum programming. Top this off with creatively-sequenced and dark vocal samples, in places reminiscient of 80s sci-fi classics, and you've got an aesthetic that's perfect for losing your mind to.
Attempting to reference other artists when describing Brassfoot's music would be a major disservice to an artist who has been in the game for some time. Instead, it makes more sense to say that this debut LP channels the very best of a broad spectrum of quality electronic music. Echoes of Detroit Techno, Bristolian Dubstep and Chicago House can be found throughout, but Brassfoot repackages these in an intelligent, unique and non-obvious way. Perfect for peak time or post-club gaff adventures alike.
With Brassfoot at the helm, NCA has put out a series of coveted cassette releases since 2015. "Sweat" is only the second vinyl release on the label and sets the bar high for future endeavours. With high-class releases on the likes of Apron Records and DBA, Brassfoot has cemented themselves as a rare breed of producer, one that's only getting more legendary as time goes on - highly recommended!
