"Good Morning Tapes’ third vinyl excursion of the year lands at the blissed intersection of sensual late night ambient x 90’s club ballistics, courtesy of a leading trio of the sound’s hypermodern offshoots - highly recommended if you’re into Malibu, A.S.O, Olive, Café Del Mar.
‘Labège’ is named for the town in Occitanie where Latvia/London’s mu tate, sound artist NEXCYIA, and Sarah Foulquiere aka Exzald S synched minds and styles for a residency at the label’s behest. The pace of life in the town, just outside Toulouse, would guide the slow-burning atmosphere of their recordings, enmeshing intuitive processes in six elegantly suspenseful, romantic works that live somewhere between the classic brood of Olive’s ‘You’re Not Alone’ and Malibu’s ‘United In Flames’ episodes.
The trio mingle and diffuse in harmonious forms sculpted with a patient tactility. ‘TERMAG’ invites us to a tumescent hyperprism of layered Reese bass strokes and quivering, helium pitched vox squeaking like Mariah in a tizzy, and ‘EG’ fractures that aerodynamic to dice with fractious ambient jungle like an update of Spooncurve’s Kate Bush-sampling ‘90s jams, establishing a swirling framework of atmospheric downstrokes and emotional bangers that shape the album.
Those smudged Reesse subs are diffused into vaporous, sound-bathing geometries on ‘RAILCÉ’, and iced with keys, FM synths and field recordings on ‘LEUX MODEL’, luring us deep into a more uncertain matrix of weightless, gyring feels on ‘GLACE’ and a classy sort of halftime ambient D&B sign-off ‘VAEP’ bound to register with fans off GMT’s Gi Gi and Ben Bondy works."
