The Perthshire magus Scott Douglas Gordon (Loops Haunt / Oto Hiax) delves into the netherworld of 90s corporate / health spa ambient via a job-lot of huge CD boxsets copped off ebay for this very limited mixtape on Scott's own HIAX imprint. 12 hour sleepover ambient events at the local cricket club you wouldn't set foot in otherwise? Forget about it mate. The source material here comes from the naffest end of the cultural spectrum as you could imagine: actual early Photoshop / QuarkXpress graphics before that was considered an "aesthetic", Dolphin sounds, stock nature recordings, rompler pads and even a bit of Sax thrown in for good measure. And all without the weird Orientalist sheen western audiences put on similar past Japanese endeavours (as good as some of that work is). This is Ambient Musak at its most intentionally uncommanding and completely devoid of any aural challenge. Yet Scott being the absolute don he is manages to stitch and warp these together via CDJs (using actual CDs!) in his own inimitable way, making a pretty captivating mix in the process. But it's also a bit of fun, y'know? Prepare to get re-enchanted with sounds of vintage Champneys, and brace yourself for a torrent of forgotten artists to get "rediscovered" and wheeled out for summer festival gigs in 2026!
