Brownswood Recordings Announces Remix Editions 006: Mala and Theo Parrish Explore Afro-Cuban Rhythms

The sixth instalment in the Brownswood Remix Editions series turns its focus to Como Como, a standout track from Mala’s landmark 2012 album Mala in Cuba. Featuring Cuban vocalists Dreiser & Sexto Sentido, the original track appears here alongside a new, deeply atmospheric rework by Detroit legend Theo Parrish.

This edition brings together two artists known for their exploratory approaches—Mala’s fusion of dubstep with Afro-Cuban rhythms, and Parrish’s genre-defying, soulful productions. The result is a striking pairing that bridges London, Havana, and Detroit—three cities with rich musical histories and deep-rooted underground cultures.

Theo Parrish, one of the most influential figures in underground dance music, brings his trademark depth and texture to the remix. Stripping the track back and rebuilding it with layered percussion, hypnotic repetition, and space to breathe, Parrish delivers a version that honours the original while carving out something entirely his own.
