Welcome to the colourful world of Tiombé Lockhart, where post-modern soul meets dub lullabies and so much more.

In this second album for Mother Tongue, Tiombé explores the more experimental sides of her sophisticated musical palette. What began over a decade ago as scattered sketches intended for a mixtape grew into something far more profound. During the early months of quarantine, shortly after giving birth, Tiombé found herself swimming in sorrow and transformation. Writing and creating the artwork became a practice of healing and self- discovery—early mornings of prayer, meditation, and music-making, sometimes starting as early as 3am. “It felt like I made this record feeling around in the dark,” she recalls.

The journey begins with Kali Ma, a powerful opener built on heavy drums and Tiombé’s signature vocal layers, bursting with energy while maintaining her distinctive, otherworldly sound. Previous single An Osirian Dream is paired with Strange Things, another collaboration with Georgia Anne Muldrow, where dub tones collide with a melancholic soul narrative. The futuristic R’n’B of I Divine meets the head-nodding paradise of Be Good To Me, weaving a rich tapestry of exquisite vocal layers. Both musically and visually, the album is infused with layers of meaning. The cover—heavily inspired by the Kemetic Tree of Life, Qaballah, primordial mothers and other empowering teachings—is designed not just as art, but as a yantra for meditation, a map to guide us back to our own divine nature. For Tiombé, the work reintroduces the great mother: nurturing, abundant, compassionate, offering unconditional love through which rebirth becomes possible.

As she explains: “As a melanated person many of us have had our authenticity lying dormant for generations, surviving but not always able to live in our full expression. This record, and its cover, are an invitation to remember those parts, to feel safe, and to participate in creating a new life of peace and joy.” Get lost in this accomplished voyage into the mind, heart, and spirit of a truly unique artist.
