Dance Data launches its new magazine, a new sibling publication to the label that delves into the world of the American underground music scene and the influential party crews pulling the strings.
A hybrid between a magazine and a book, the 100-page publication pays homage to a lineage of underground dance music magazines of the 1990s, such as Street Beat, Street Sound, and XLR8R. These radical publications indulged in a lavish physicality, documenting the scene that was emerging during their time. Dance Data Underground Fanzine aims to do the same with a moment in Dance Music that we find particularly interesting.
The magazine features exclusive interviews with some of America’s prolific underground crews, alongside never before seen photos from their archives. In a single book, we’ve worked to compile memories and ephemera from these communities, capturing a snapshot of what it’s like throwing events across the country in this decade. There are also 6 quick-hit interviews with some of Dance Data’s favorite selectors and producers, as well as shop features with some local establishments keeping the spirit of the underground alive and serving their communities.
