Create rich chord progressions with ease

ChordCat’s Chord Cruiser mode helps you generate complex progressions without deep music theory knowledge. When activated, it suggests compatible chords from a 110,000-strong database. You can audition and assign these to the built-in keyboard, with each chosen chord triggering a new suggestion. This creates a smooth workflow for building unique musical sequences.

For a quick start, ChordCat includes 18 chord presets known as Chordsets. Thirteen are genre-based, while the remaining five cover essential chord types like major and minor. These are great for beginners looking for a jump-off point or experienced users in need of quick inspiration.

Combined with scale and key-locking features, ChordCat ensures every note and chord you play fits together musically, with no guesswork needed.

Build detailed tracks with intuitive sequencing

The ChordCat Groovebox gives you an organised workspace for creating complete songs. With 8 separate tracks, you can layer instruments like drums, bass, synths or effects and fine-tune each one’s volume and panning. You can then build 16 patterns per track and link them using Pattern Chain mode for fluid arrangements. The step-sequencer spans 128 steps, arranged as 8 pages of 16 steps, giving you room to develop ideas across 8 full bars. Each step can be edited for precision timing, creating tight, polished patterns.

There’s also a Running Direction feature that lets you flip pattern playback in different directions. You can instantly switch between right, down, clockwise or counterclockwise sequencing, a quick way to find fresh rhythmic variations without rewriting your entire pattern.

Shape your sound with onboard effects and filters

ChordCat includes three built-in effects to help you add motion and space to your music. The Arpeggiator transforms static chords into flowing melodies. Delay introduces echoes and spatial width. The Ducker creates rhythmic pumping effects by shaping volume in response to other sounds. All three are controlled using a responsive XY pad, which makes shaping your effects feel hands-on and musical.

You can further tweak sounds using the low-pass filter to remove high-end content, and the amp envelope to shape the attack, sustain and decay of each sound. These tools help refine your presets and give your tracks a more personal edge.

Stay connected and work across different setups

ChordCat is built to fit into both studio and portable workflows. It features USB Type-C for power and computer connection, plus MIDI IN, OUT and THRU ports. This lets you control external synths, sync gear, or integrate ChordCat with your DAW. You can use the ChordCat Manager app to import and export patterns between the groovebox and your computer, making it easy to build ideas in one space and finish them in another. You can also back up full projects to your PC or Mac for peace of mind.

With 145 built-in sound presets and 16 drum kits ready to go, you don’t need any extra equipment to get started. And because ChordCat runs on six AA batteries or USB power, it’s ready to travel. This makes it ideal for capturing ideas in the studio, on stage or at home.
