The Pioneer DJM-S7 is a 2-channel battle mixer designed for flexible setup customisation and built for unique styled performances.
The mixer has been created to arm battle DJs with the right tools to assist them when performing, including seamless transition between tracks and assists in providing the energy for capturing and holding the audience’s attention. Performance features can be used freely within Serato DJ Pro, along with rekordbox thanks to the Hardware Unlock device.
Layout and Features:
The DJMS7 features a clean and intuitive layout. If you’re familiar with the DJM-S11, then adapting to the S7 will be a breeze. The mixer features 16 performance pads (8 on each deck), large load button, 22 Beat FX, effect levers, pad modes and Magvel Fader Pro. The performance pads are large, making them easier to locate when quickly firing off Hot Cues and Samples. They independently feature pad modes which allow for two different features (one of each channel's pads) being used simultaneously.
The feeling of the Magvel Fader Pro has been enhanced, and the rigidity of the knob mounting shaft has been boosted by 30 per cent in a vertical direction so scratching can be carried out with extreme confidence. Effects can be added through the large-sized effect levers. The 22 in-built Beat FX ensures your creativity knows no bounds and the six effects assigned to the FX Select buttons are easy to change. The OLED display provides vital information such as name and beat value at a glance.
Bluetooth Connectivity:
Adding new sounds to your mixes is easy with the Bluetooth Connectivity the DJM S7 offers. As a result, it means that you can continuously play audio from your smartphone directly. From this, sounds can be triggered from instrument apps, loops can be played ready to be scratched over, and you can react to a music request instantaneously through the use of a music app. Alternatively, having your smartphone connected ensures a level of backup protection in the event your laptop stops working. Sounds can be played through the master output, on either of the 2-channels and have the volume controlled using the dedicated knob and fader on the mixer.
Loop MIDI:
Excitingly, there is a new feature on the S7 in the form of Loop MIDI. This is where you can manage performance features rhythmically (beat cycle) by using the effect levers to send MIDI messages to the music management DJ software, Serato DJ Pro or rekordbox. Certain functions are pre-assigned to the FX Select buttons including Sampler, Hot Cue and key shift-up, which ensures Loop MIDI is ready to use and there is no need to faff around assigning features beforehand.
In-built USB Hub:
External devices such as DJ controllers and CDJs can easily be connected using the dual USB-A ports negating the need for extra equipment in the form of an external hub. The USB hub allows for HID mode to be used when two CDJs are plugged-in, and changeover of DJs can be seamless thanks to the dual USB-B ports ideal for connecting laptops.
Additional Features:
Additional features have been inherited from the S11 when using Serato DJ Pro including Scratch Bank, Combo Pad mode and Gate Cue. Scratch Bank allows you to load scratch samples instantly from four banks that have been pre-assigned in Serato DJ Pro. Loading from a specified starting point is an option also with the scratch bank mode. Combo pad mode is available in Serato DJ Pro where two different pad modes can be used at the same time, for example, Hot Cue and Sampler. As a result, there is the option for more features to be combined and reduces the need to change modes, great as an enhancement to a performance.
Music Management DJ Software:
Full Serato or rekordbox software features can be accessed, including DVS control. To access the total parameters, connect the mixer to a PC, Mac or laptop that runs the software and ensure that the latest version is downloaded. Also included is a license key for Pitch ‘n Time DJ which is part of the Serato DJ Pro Expansion pack, ideal for enabling key shifting and key syncing with exceptional audio quality.
